Planning is one of the most important aspects of the work we do, ensuring the National Park continues to be a place of beauty, heritage and wildlife conservation.

More than 80 per cent of planning applications are approved – most within eight weeks – and we currently deal with 1,300 planning applications a year.

Minor applications may not have to go to the Planning Committee, but can be dealt with relatively quickly by officers.

Those that do go to the Planning Committee are more complex, and you are welcome to attend the committee or speak on any application (please give us a couple of days’ notice if you wish to speak at a meeting). For dates and agendas go to planning committee.

A new design guide has been published by the Authority, aimed at anyone from developers to householders. It gives advice on design best practice, from simple house extensions and work buildings to shops and housing estates.

• Providing housing (we only give planning permission)
• Highways matters – such as dropping kerbs
