Estate Warden

Estate workerI meet my fellow Estate Warden at our work base to catch up on news from the previous day and answer emails and phone calls from HQ.

We are drystone walling for most of the day. The boundary wall needs repairing in places to keep sheep on the moor. The work can be tough but we are used to it and work well together. When we have repaired the wall we will top wire it.

I call on the agricultural tenant to let him know that we have seen a sheep that is lame and will need his attention.

I am always alert to the wildlife on the Estate as I drive home across this beautiful moorland landscape thinking about the next day's jobs.

What qualifications and experience do I need?

  • No formal academic qualifications required.
  • Experienced in fencing, walling and practical conservation work.
  • Excellent knowledge of moorland management, livestock husbandry as well as good communication skills and experience of teamworking.
