Shillito Wood

An informal car park with pleasant views across Ramsley Moor, and open access to an attractive mature conifer woodland which can be used for picnicking.

The stone surfaced car park is fairly smooth and level (gradients up to 1:16) with a few potholes. There are no reserved parking spaces and no facilities on site (nearest public toilets are at Baslow).

The path into the wood provides easy level walking with gradients 1:12 or less; the track is insufficiently wide to take a wheelchair although in dry conditions it might be possible to use the grass. The path in the wood has some muddy sections and exposed tree roots.

Access to the moor across the road from the car park is through a 600mm wide gap in wall with rock steps followed by a gate opening to 500mm. There is easier access at the south-west corner of the wood, by the road junction - here a moor gate opens onto a rough track.
