Cycling is one of the best ways to explore the Peak District and the Peak District Park Authority provides a number of specifically designed cycle routes, as well as cycle hire centres to ensure that the Park is cyclist friendly. Many of the paths and trails within the park are traffic free, providing miles of relaxing pollution free riding. The trails themselves as well as the range of bikes on offer provide something to suite all levels, whether this is the novice cyclist to a cycling enthusiast.
One of the cycling centres is located in Derwent and offers visitors with a wide range of services which include cycle hire. The Derwent cycle hire centre is perfectly located in the beautiful Derwent Valley and is easily accessible from Sheffield on the A57 road which connects Sheffield to Glossop. The local area boasts endless opportunities for riding and is the location of the Derwent and Ladybower reservoirs.
The cycle centre is open throughout the summer months between March and October, from 9.30am to 5.00pm every day. There are several weeks throughout the summer when the centre is open for half an hour more. These weeks include between the 23rd of March to the 7th of April, the 4-6th of May, the 25th of May to the 2nd of June and the 20th of July to the 1st of September. The centre is also open in the winter on weekends as well as for the February half term week.
The cycle hire centre also has a visitor centre which provides visitors with a wide range of information about the local area. Refreshments are also available on site as well as parking and an area for picnics. Cycle hire staff also provide emergency bike repair that is subject to the availability of mechanics.
A wide range of bikes are available to suit a wide range of both people and abilities. There are adult bikes, child bikes, mobility scooters as well as off-road styled mountain bikes. A range of discounts are also available for schools and those who wish to hire bikes for more than 2 days.
