Heage Windmill

Heage Windmill

Heage Windmill was constructed in 1797 and is the only working example of a stone towered windmill in England.  Located in the Derbyshire countryside the Heage windmill is one of the Peak District’s most iconic industrial landmarks and provides visitors with a fascinating insight into the past.  The windmill has undergone a series of restoration work since the early 1970s and is now open to the general public.

One of the biggest draws to the windmill is the Heage Windmill flour which is produced on site.  The flour is completely natural and is a product of the stone milling process.  Wholemeal flour is the first product produced in the production of flour and costs £2.00 for a 1.5 kg bag.  Other flours that require further refinement are also available and include strong white flour which costs £2.50 for a kilogram.

The mill is open on bank holidays and weekends from April to the end of October, between the hours of 11am and 4pm.  All visitors are taken on a guided tour of the mill which takes around 40 minutes and allows them to climb to the top of the mill and enjoy extensive views of the Derbyshire countryside.  Tickets cost £3.50 for adults, £1.50 for children with family tickets also being available for £8.50
