The Red Lion Pub and Bistro is an award winning gastro pub which won the Derbyshire Food and Drink Gastro Pub of the year in 2012. The Red Lion pub prides itself on sourcing all of the ingredients used in its food from Derbyshire, and produces a number of fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes and lettuces in its own garden. A range of meals are available at the bistro from lunch time snacks to an ala carte menu. Specials are also available and listed on the pubs daily specials board, with the chef also being open minded and flexible should patrons wish to have something made which isn’t on the menu.
The Red Lion Bistro is also a bar and has a lounge bar area with an open fire, low lighting and cosy sofas creating a real pub atmosphere. The bar has a large range of drinks available that include numerous local beers and ales as well as over 20 different types of wine. The bar is open from 12 noon to 11pm Monday to Saturdays, and on Sundays between 12 noon and 10.30pm.
The Red Lion offers a two course set menu at lunchtimes costing £12.95, that consists of a starter and a main course. A three course option is also available that includes a desert and costs £14.95. Starters currently available include pea and mint soup, Scottish Salmon and a tomato salad with goat cheese. Main courses range from the red lion burger that comes with bacon, chips and onion rings, to line caught haddock served with hand cut chips and mushy peas. Deserts range from homemade apple crumble to chocolate mousse and ice cream.
