Visitors have a wide range of choice when it comes to fishing in the Peak District as the Peak District contains a number of rivers, ponds, and reservoirs suitable for the sport.
The Peak Districts rivers are some of the cleanest rivers in the whole of the country, and can be found all across the National Park. Once visitors purchase fishing permits they are free to fish in pretty much all of the Parks Rivers subject to land entry constraints. You can find permit prices and a fishing location guide here. The most popular rivers for fishing in the park include the Wye, Dove and Derwent rivers which are known for their Wild Brown Trout, Rainbow Trent and Grayling species.
Course fishing is another option for visitors, as the Peak District’s reservoirs acting as the perfect fisheries. Visitors can apply for day tickets online which allow coarse fishing in a number of the Peak District reservoirs such as the Rudyard, Ladybower, and Carsington Reservoirs. A number of private lakes and fisheries also exist within the Peak District, which visitors can use on a pay per day basis. For private fly fishing in the Haddon estate, you’ll need to book online at Peacock and for fishing in Chatsworth estate, you need a ticket which will grant you access to 4 miles of double bank fly fishing.
One of the best pieces of advice regarding fishing is the environmental agencies, “where to go fishing” report. As the majority of Derbyshire’s waters are controlled by estates, fishing is often available through clubs and associations. Most fishing areas are let out to clubs and associations on a seasonal basis, with some clubs and associations offering fishing day tickets for visitors to the park.
The Trent Rivers Trust has recently introduced a roving angling scheme which is known as the Peak Passport. The Peak Passport provides visitors to the park with access to a range of remote waters which are on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire borders. Many of these fishing areas are famous due to the book “Complete Angler” by Charles Cotton, so are the perfect spots for angling enthusiasts.
